addiction is especially brutal. Huge problem here in Kentucky. Oxycontin is the drug of choice in impoverished Appalachia.

about losing his hearing and how it would effect his work and everything else in his life. If it is true he should air it out and try to set an example, rather than try to cover it up in some way. Better to be forthcoming and head the bashers off at the pass than to hide it and have them use it against you.
I can't imagine why somebody would bash him for this.Alex-in-Evanston

Addiction is a monster. It would be like bashing a smoker for contracting lung cancer.

Bennett is/was an annoying moralistic prig who made a pretty good living preaching virtue over vice, who turned out, hypocritically, to have one king-hell Vice in the his closet. Virtue/vice was his meal ticket, and he steppped in it.

Rush has never, to my knowledge, preached sonorously about the depravity of Oxycontin abusers and their lack of moral rectitude. Even if so, addiction is nothing to bash ANYONE about, ever. Doubt you'll find the liberals piling on about this one, unless of course he finds a way to blame Clinton for his drug problem.

From Merriam-Webster:

Main Entry: 2prig
Function: noun
Etymology: probably from 1prig
Date: 1676
1 archaic : FOP
2 archaic : FELLOW, PERSON
3 : one who offends or irritates by observance of proprieties (as of speech or manners) in a pointed manner or to an obnoxious degree

Unlike 'fug,' which Norman Mailer was forced to use in The Naked and the Dead (1948).
Rush wrote the book on bashing. How can he complain?Silverback

I'm pretty sympathetic to the problem--a relative of mine was addicted to Vicodin after an accident. It ruined his marriage and eventually his life.
On the other hand: Limbaugh has made a career of bashing people he disagrees with--not just criticizing or denigrating them, but absolutely smashing them with half-truths, lies and accusations he KNOWS have been false. He's continued to repeat some of these stories long after it's been established that they're not true (there are many examples; I won't take time here to list any).
Now he's stepped on his crank and everybody's supposed to say, "Oh, poor Rush!"? I don't think so...

Two of the drugs he used have the potential side effect of hearing loss from long term use. At least I think that's what I remember. He might have been hooked for a long time.

One thing for sure, everything he has ever said or written on the topic of drug addicts is going to be put under the microscope.
He's having a bad week...PdxMark

Let's see how conservative values play out here. He is an @ss, but it would be sad if he is addicted...

If he were liberal, he'd be chastised incessently by conservatives as an example of the moral destructiveness of liberal thinking. As a conservative, his problem, like Arnold's propensity for assualting women, are viewed by conservatives as quirky novelties in the personalities of their demigods. Ahh. American right-wing moralistic hypocrisy is a marvel to watch.

I think the only "values" in American GOP conservatism are are hatred (of non-Christians and non-conservatives) and rank hypocrisy when it comes to moralistic standards. And best of all, GOP conservatives are proud of these values.

Some people deserve some slack, but when you make your life's work out of dealing low blows, it's kinda' hard to feel any sympathy at all for his problems.
Like I have stated before... What would he have said if it was Hillary that had this problem? Would he have shown any sympathy at all..? No way. He would have cut her guts out on his show for days and days, before she had her day in court. I think that we should treat Rush, just like he would have treated a Democrat that had this problem.

There's the peace and love and hugs type of liberal, and then there is the "I'll cut your guts out, and let them spill on your shoes" type of liberal.
There's the "Turn the other cheek" type of liberal, and then there is the " If you hit me again, I'll cut your arm off with a chain saw" type of liberal.
Have a nice day......

hmmm... so what did I say about his drug problem, if there is one? I said it would be sad IF it were true. That's it. Where is my moral condemnation of him for his drug problem?

I said he was an @ss based upon his hate-filled ranting about anything that doesn't fit his narrow-minded semi-educated world view. At least liberals can read, and if you could, you would have understood that my rant was about conservatives being hypocritically selective about where to direct their moral condemnation, not RL's possible drug problem.

You're just like Rush and so many other conservatives, ranting despite the facts at hand.

It's being reported on all the news outlets. I think this has been verified by other sources. I hope they are wrong, but if it is true, he needs to get help.

I read it fairly regularly, as a matter of fact. No, I'm not a d*mb*ss, either. (Work in PR, so reading all manner of wacky things is part of the job.)

I read the Rush story last night. Two things struck me about it...The desperate yet non-chalant tone of his alleged e-mails, where he's trying to score right before he goes into rehab, and the fact that here he is, this powerful media figure, and he's resorted to menacing his housekeeper to get drugs.

Addiction really sucks. People don't get addicted to drugs or alcohol because they're pricks or bad people who want to make things difficult for others. Regardless of his political leanings, I hope he gets the help he needs.
