It wasn't the EPA it was the White House behind this.
They might have been behind the idea to keep it quietMR_GRUMPY

but it was the EPA who could have said NO ! They made the final choise, and now the story is starting to come out.
It's pretty funny that the EPA was set up to protect people, but under george, it tells people that it's OK to have your kids be exposed to toxic products.
it's either do what george tells you torufus

or start working on your resume. despite what the epa says about how they weren't bowing to pressure from the white house(and george tennant was solely responsible for the "16 words" :( ) you know that they cut items from their statements that the white house disapproved of, and added reassuring platitudes that the WH wanted. all in the name of the public good, of course. wouldn't want to cause any panic in new york about breathing toxic air, would we? and of course, we wouldn't want to have to spend any money making that air safer, or equipping the people most at risk with respirators or other safety equipment.

Whitmen quit the EPA. After all, if your boss tells you to shoot someone, and you go ahead and do it out of loyalty, you may feel remorse later on.

This is what you can expect from bush in all federal departments. He will turn all government services upside down. The new head of forestry is an ex lobbyist from the timber industry and safe forest is just about cutting down as many trees as they can. The Social Security department will be allowed to go bankrupt. The food you eat will not be inspected because the head of the USDA will be from the food industry. The army navy air force and marines will have very expensive but poorly designed equipment because the defense department will be staffed by ex contractors. and so on for all government agencies.

The White house also gutted the EPA report on climate change, entirely changing the thrust of the reports findings.

Bush wants to radically change the Federal Government. Aside from the Justice Department controlling our private lives, and the Defense Department running amok all over the world, bush doesn't want the Federal government controlling business at all. No over site on pollution, banking ect. And he hopes to cut all taxes on business and the wealthy. If there isn't enough tax revenue to fund the USDA or the parks service, he couldn't be more pleased.
That counts for homeland security too.czardonic

Big talk, but no standards for industry or agencies to live up to. Can't be sub-standard if there are no standards. See, Bush is a "glass is half full" kind of guy. . .
