I just got a new pc with a dvd-rw and cd-rw. I have a CRAPLOAD of mp3's on my old pc that I would like to put on a disk. It, however, does not have a cd burner. Any relatively easy way to get these from the old hard drive to my new one? Thanks!

what are the OSs? Do both machines have a Network Interface Card (NIC)?

You can most likely create a small home network if you're just connecting the two computers. If both machines have a NIC, you'll need to buy or make a crossover cable. You'll then go into the properties of your computer, create a 'workgroup' (call it whatever, but both machines should be the same).

Open Network Connections under your control panel. Right click the NIC and go to properties. Make sure TCP/IP is installed on both machines, highlight TCP/IP and select Properties on that. There you'll specify the following: comp1 IP Address: 10.1.1.1 comp2 IP Address 10.1.1.2 for both: Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0. You shouldn't need a default gateway.

After the NICs are connected via the Crossover (with the appropriate ends at the sending and receiving PC), go into the PC with the MP3s, right click, select properties then the sharing tab and share the folder with the MP3s. Go to the new PC and double-click the Network Neighborhood (maybe My Network Places or whatever MS is calling it these days), select the Windows Workgroup and your old PC should show up.

If it doesn't post back and I'll see where I screwed up my explanation.

Here's a couple of links:
how to make a crossover cable (and good description of what it is).

More on what it is

Hope this helps.

The old OS is 98+. New is XP. Both have ethernet cards (NIC's, right?). I'll give it a shot. Might take a while 'till I have time (2 kids, 2 dogs, 2 cats, a fish and a wife-time is LIMITED! =) ) Thanks.

Pull the CD burner out of the new PC and put it temporarily in the old PC. Or pull the HD out of the old PC and temporarily put in the new PC.
