Why are we paying for the rebuilding of Iraq ? I thought that they are sitting on a Trillion dollars worth of oil. Why don't we just loan them the money now, and collect later?
Has George lost his mind ????

Think of what that money could buy... A free college education for any kid in America? Much needed help for troubled inner cities. Medical insurance? What a waste...

What's worth more, an Iraqi life or a college education for an American kid?

Who needs more help, inner-city youth in Baghdad or inner-city youth in New York?

I don't know why people are so eager to help themselves before they begin to even consider helping anybody else.

I think we should annex Iraq, or at least make it a US territory or a commonwealth like Puerto Rico. We are occupying the country- might as well make it our own and have the Iraqis pay taxes... and we really will need to raise their standard of living substantially before any form of democracy can "stick."

If we had a territory abroad in the center of the radical Islamic world, it would be a much easier target for terrorists than in the "homeland" and could easily serve as a decoy to keep the rest of us safe at the cost of only a few US soldiers lives per day. Two deaths per day is substantially less than the civilian "price" on 9/11...

The $60 billion amounts to $2727 per capita. Average US Federal spending is $6527 per capita. Though relative to 50th place Nevada, with $4940 per capita federal spending, Iraqis are just 1/2 class citizens.

Excuse me, but I'd guess that $2727 goes more than just a bit further in Iraq than it even does in Nevada ;) $2727 may well be equal to $27,270 per capita...?

As much as I don't like the whole mess, there is no way out now. It is our baby. The UN may offer some help but we are stuck with it. From things I've read, Iraq has a good deal of oil but their infrastructure to extract it is poor. Estimates I've seen put it at five years to get it at full capacity, which doesn't do much to help the people today.
How about 10B to Iraq, 50-60B towards the US. nmMike P
