United States Code, Title 4, Chapter 1, Sec. 8: "The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure, design, picture, or drawing of any nature."

A real patriot, this Bush.
Freedom of expression, no? (nm)TJeanloz

CLINTON had ever done such a thing. It would have been added to the articles of impeachment. After all, it's AGAINST THE LAW, no matter the context or intent.
I'm pretty sure the "Flag Code" is not a law,TJeanloz
Jul 28, 2003 10:40 AM
At least, not a law with any enforcement capabilities. You can legally burn the flag, after all.
True. (nm)czardonic

I remember Ted Williams' son was auctioning off a flag signed by Ted shortly before he died on Ebay. Some people made a big deal over that.

That is a mistake and Bush should have known better than to sign it.

Ha! Even I draw the line at supporting. . .czardonic

. . .a Republican President.

Seriously, burning a flag is a statement of extreme political conviction. Using it to sign autographs seems more a statement of ignorant self-promotion.
But burning is recommended by the flag code!MikeBiker

Sec. 8. - Respect for flag

(k) The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.
So after G defaces it, the other guy has to burn it? How nicely128

He is known for doing some "Big Time" stupid things. This is just a minor goof that any normal dumbell could do. For those few seconds that someone shoved a small flag into his hands, and asked for an autograph, his brain wasn't in gear.
I'll agree.Still pis' me off though, and still big time stupid nm128

If a bicycle frame made in Italy is an Italian frame and an automobile made in Korea is a Korean car, wouldn't a flag made in China be a Chinese flag?
Certainly somethin' to ponder :O) nmLive Steam

A Ford made in Mexico and sold in Peoria is not a Mexican car, nor is the BMW that's made in South Carolina an American car. At least not in the eye of the beholder.
I found out what he's really doing!No_sprint

There was a bad mark on this toy flag produced by another country. He's scribbling on it real big, marking it for the Pentagon incinerator because the fire department wouldn't let him break out his trusty zippo and burn the dang thing right then and there with all the fans around and all.
