|90-year-old wins $16 million lottery
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) Luis Salazar has seen a lot in his 90 years. But he's never seen $16 million. Until Tuesday.
The Osceola County man, believed to be the oldest person ever to win the lottery in Florida, came to Tallahassee to collect his prize. Salazar chose a lump sum of $10,089,377.57 over 30 annual payments of $533,333.
He plans to give some to his church in Kissimmee and spend the money on his grandchildren and other family members.
He said he might do a little traveling too back to where he grew up.
"I have to go back to Puerto Rico," he said Tuesday at Lottery Headquarters.
Salazar moved to Osceola County 14 years ago after retiring from a Puerto Rico cement-distribution company, where he worked as a purchasing agent.
Then he went to work at Winn-Dixie in Buenaventura Lakes as a bagger, retiring at age 87. It was the same store where he bought his winning ticket last week.
