"Veteran observers of the klepto-plutocracy that has, lazar-like, long encrusted the American body politic were not surprised to see the hoary name of the Bechtel Group bobbing up in the swill of sweetheart deals now being doled out by the Corrupter-in-Chief for the "reconstruction" of his new fiefdom in Iraq... "

"Last week, while the notorious coward George W. Bush -- who walked away from his National Guard duty during the Vietnam War, a criminal act known as "desertion" when committed by lesser mortals -- was basking in the man-musk of a shipload of sailors, reciting his usual lies about al-Qaida's "alliance" with Saddam Hussein, and weasel-wording his "victory" declaration to avoid taking full legal responsibility for the consequences of the war of aggression he had unleashed, Bechtel was quietly pocketing a secret, closed-bid, open-ended Iraq contract that could give them almost $700 million in taxpayer money before the 2004 election -- with the alluring prospect of untold billions to follow, Mother Jones reports."

I like the writing in The Economist alot, but this is a HOOT. The sentences do drag on a bit, but I wish I could rant so well!
sounds like a leftist version of William F. Buckley, Jr. nmDougSloan

That must be Chris Floyd ....Global Eye...IFTreedog

Floyd has been doing this for years, and he's always good because he provides a detailed and linked source list at the end of each column.

Another Moscow alternative is www.exile.ru Those guys are a lot less professional than Floyd, but once in a while they are pretty damned funny. They also make Howard Stern look politically correct.
Ahoy, sn69: " basking in the man-musk of a shipload of sailors"Dale Brigham

So, sn69, what's that like? I mean, how thick does the musk actually get? Thick enough for "basking"? And, what about female Navy personnel on board. Similarly musky? Or, different?

We deserve to know! We have to know! Please do share with us, OK?

Dale ("I have my own musk, thank you.")

come out, but will the left wing, panty waste (sic) media have the stomach to follow the story to its logical conclusion? I doubt it.

Clicked on some of the links in your post and found much of interest, including this:

Good thing the press outside the US isn't asleep...PdxMark

It would be nice to have some well-funded liberal bias media here in the US printing the truth about W and his (mis)deeds.

Though just this morning I was thinking he might be doing something right in reigning-in the Corps of Engineers, but on reconsideration I suspect the real goal of reigning-in the Corps is to eliminate environmental improvements rather than the the Corps' usual environmental "boondoggling."
