Formally attired Alaskan lasses warm up for the senior prom by racing in the three-mile May Day Mud (and Mountain) Run in Juneau. The girls stopped to mud-wrestle in the saltwater Gastineau Channel to decide who would be prom queen.

compared to that! Female mud wrestling in formal dresses??

Mohair...are you kidding about the wrestling for prom queen?? I just can't see that many prom queen "types" gettin' down & dirty in the mud. But...it would be fun to watch. So what do the potential prom kings do??? Wrestle moose to the death??

A few runners had very little mud on them when they finished, but the four prom queens were caked in mud. The prom queens - Juneau-Douglas High School students Heidi Denton, Mikaela Rodriguez, Lena Gilbertson and Elizabeth Eley - bought old prom dresses from a thrift store in honor of the high school prom Saturday night.

"We stopped and mud wrestled to see who was prom queen," Denton said. "I don't know who won."

"I wanted to get my $3 out of this dress I got from the Salvation Army," Gilbertson said.
