Worst actor ever, a poll(34 posts)

After a small, friendly discussion, we were left here at work without consensus. I'm really not looking for comical William Shatner bad, nor common Dabney Coleman bad, but the truly sad performer. Top this: Lou Diamond Phillips.
What about Gary Busey?sacheson

Can anyone 'over' act more than that guy?

His son is just about as bad ...

He was in the worst movie I have ever seen in my life, bar none. It's called "Frost: Portrait of a Vampire," you can look it up on imdb.com. It's some LOW budget film (sub b-movie quality), and is just torture to watch. I'm a movie fan, and have found that even the "worst" movies are so bad they're funny, but this one just plain sucks. Gary hit rock bottom with it.

My vote = Jeff Goldblum, he's terrible in everything..nmchopper

Keanu Reeves has absolutely no range whatsoever. A cigar store indian has more range.

Charlton Heston is so bad, he finally decided to take parts that parody himself, much like William Shatner. At one time, he was quite serious and even won an Oscar!!! But even in great movies like "Touch of Evil," he was terrible.

The worst performace of Shakespeare in modern history has to be Keanu Reeves in Much Ado About Nothing. It still haunts me. If you pushed Keanu off a cliff he couldn't portray falling.
It should be worst movie starkilimanjaro

I am a horrible actor, but only my family knows about me. I vote for Ben Afleck. This was confirmed when I rented the movie "Bounce" starring Ben and Gweneth Paltrow on DVD. When I watched the movie with director comments turned on, they kept fawning over how easily Gweneth delivered her performance, how natural it was for her. Comments about Ben were "He was trying really hard here ..." "This is a really difficult scene ...".

Rent a wonderful movie called "Dazed and Confused" and see just how poor an actor Affleck really is. He is terrible in that film, thankfully in a very small part, and while he has gotten more refined over the years, he hasn't gotten a whole lot better.
Ditto on Ben AffleckStarliner

In Shakespeare in Love, he was like a high school actor among pros - way out of his league. Any attempt at dropping his Yankee accent for the role was a flat failure, so whenever he opened his mouth he put his foot right inside it.

Then there was Pearl Harbor. A two cassette movie, I thought it was over after the first cassette finished until I realized differently. Especially loved the scene where he and his hunky co-star high-fived after showing off their flying skills during flight training. High-fivin' in 1941....... yeah, right

I think he's worked a deal out with JLo to keep things stringing along with their 'romance' so that he can stay on the tabloid covers at the supermarket checkstands. It's still unclear who's the sucker out of the two, but my money is on him.
Wait, he topped Bounce. Did you see DareDevil?Kristin

If not, just wait. It will be on Svengoule in 15 years. Worst movie of the year.
Darn. I was hoping that was worth watching...Matno

For sheer annoying blandness it's Matthew Broderick and Bill Pullman in a dead heat.

Peter Strauss is a wonder as well.

Christopher Reeve!!! Can you get more wooden than him? He has no facial expression and can show no emotion with his voice. Even Steven Segal can raise one Eybrow. I know his accident was tragic and I hope there are medical developments that allow him to walk again. But the man cannot act.

Mike Y.
Vin Diesel is terrible too, I hope he's just a faze....nmchopper

The only movie Willis has done that I liked at all was Pulp Fiction, and he annoyed the hell out of me in that movie. Honorable mention goes to Charlton Heston, David Caruso, and Keanau Reeves. On the other hand, the most underrated actor is Zulu, who played Kono Kalakaua on Hawaii Five-0.

Dennis Hopper? Are you crazed? Much better than Peter Fonda. Yeah, try Peter Fonda out for your list. See under file for 'Wooden Peformers". Chop him up and throw him into the fireplace.

And I can't believe nobody has mentioned Kevin Costner yet!

Actually, most, if not all, of the people listed so far really are bad actors - mostly because they can only play one role. However, many of them play that one role well. Keanu Reeves was good in Bill & Ted because that's what he's really like (at least in all his movies he is). Kevin Costner does okay at playing an "average small-town American" (e.g. Field of Dreams), but try to make him British (e.g. Robin Hood) and you've got a disaster. Heck, even Harrison Ford might make the worst actor list if he wasn't always type-cast. Ever noticed how his characters all have the same facial expressions and mannerisms? He just happens to do movies that match that personality. (I love Harrison Ford, by the way).

How about "cool" actors who are actually really bad? (Like Clint Eastwood. I don't think I've ever seen one of his movies that wasn't boring and predictable, and his "acting" consists of growling, scowling, and talking tough).

Or decent (but not great) actors who always seem to make stupid movies (I'd put Matthew Broderick in that category).

Note of trivia regarding Lou Diamond Phillips: one of his worst movies ever, "Bats," was filmed in an old school building owned by my wife's family. Even THEY won't watch it because it's so dumb.

Let's not leave out actresses either. How about Cameron Diaz? Cindy Crawford was horrible too, but nobody's complaining... :^)
Carrot Top? Can we technically consider him an actor? nmKristin
Apr 25, 2003 11:22 AM
And how come nobodies mentioning actresses?Kristin
Apr 25, 2003 11:33 AM
Are they fogiven as long as they create a nice view? How about Pamela Lee Anderson or Tiffany Amber Theissen. Oh and Jennifer Aniston--nothing outside of Friends is close to worth watching.
I did... (nm)Matno

You didn't like Jennifer's performance in "The Good Girl"bnlkid
Apr 25, 2003 11:58 AM
There are many bad actors/actresses, but some of them have matured and are actually better. Rent "Alan Quatermain and The Lost City of Gold" for an extremely horrendous performance by Sharon Stone.

Keneau Reeves is by far the worst actor out there. There isn't an actress even close to his lack of talent.
So you're saying Carrot Top is better than Keanu? nmKristin
