A captured Iraqi colonel being held in one of the hangars listened in astonishment as his information minister praised Republican Guard soldiers for recapturing the airport.

He looked at his captors and, as he realised that what he had heard was palpably untrue, his eye filled with tears. Turning to a translator, he asked: "How long have they been lying like this?"

As funny as the reports of Baghdad Bob sounded, there are probably hundreds if not thousands of troops who would have gave up or surrendered if they knew the truth. A more accurate reporting may have saved lives on both sides.

Just goes to show you how free our press really is. I know there are some who really do believe that the media is controlled by the Jews (and they clearly mean that in a bad way), yet they seem to have no problem with the undeniably Arab controlled media that is so wildly misleading.

Say what you will, overt falsehoods cannot survive for long with our open system.
