It makes me shiver with dread, but yes, I think the loon will do it. He did it before...we're PRETTY SURE. Of course, a couple bazillion decaliters of burning petro-chem funk in the air didn't help either. My first deployment there was in 95, and it still made one's eyes and throat burn.

Oh, and FWIW, strong rumors indicate that the younger son got schwacked. Don't know too much more.
Didn't we think Chemical Ali was schwacked for awhile?OldEdScott

Let's just say I wasn't particularly "shocked into awe" to hear from unclass sources that he was "decapitated."

I don't think gas will be used at Baghdad for two reasons:

1. There are few delivery systems. Iraq hasn't put up a plane yet, and the coalition forces totally control the skies anyway. Artillery units should be taken out before they can come within range. Yeah, they probably can sneak a shell through somewhere, but not on a massive enough scale to make a real difference in the military situation.

2. Prevailing winds tend to be out of the southeast. That means the gas will blow back towards Iraqi lines as an unintended consequence. (The Germans discovered that in WWI, although it didn't stop them from continuing.) Sure, they might get some Americans, but they'll get some Iraqis too, and that can't be good for the defense of the city. After all, as soon as chemical weapons are used, the French will send every man, woman, and child in their military over to aid in the fight. That has to send shivers up Saddam's spine.

I think it is more likely that if chemicals are used, it will be against rear areas, not front line troops around Baghdad.

That has to be sarcasm. Darn good one, too. :-)
