Repub President & war hero Dwight Eisenhower was in 1953 presented with a plan to disarm Stalin's Soviet Union.

He said: "All of us have heard this term ‘preventive war' since the earliest days of Hitler. I recall that is about the first time I heard it. In this day and time.I don't believe there is such a thing; and frankly, I wouldn't even listen to anyone seriously that came in and talked about such a thing."

What a pansy.

After all, if I'm not mistaken, Ike was born in Denison, Tx. Is she ashamed of or proud of him?
How many of your towns are now "Dixie Chick Free Zones"?hycobob

I know both of Houston, Tx country stations have quit them. What about your city's radio.

I'm reading Ambrose's single volume Eisenhower biography, and all I can say is -- he was the MAN! He kept Korea from becoming WWIII, and he stalwartly resisted other potentially lethal entanglements. He knew how to win a war, and better than that, he knew how to avoid one. Now I understand why guys like my dad who served in the European theatre in WWII idolized him.

Given the military and political situation of his times, this sounds like a rational thing to say in 1953. It's 50 years later, in case you haven't noticed.

Maybe you can dig up that quote from George Washington about not making foreign alliances.
plus, Iraq is not the Soviet Union nmDougSloan
