|some idiots must be clicking on them or you'd think they would learn not to advertise this way. personally i think spam and popups cause more badwill than any temporary sales gain they might achieve.|

|I know some internet companies make money for "per click" referrals. So, the idea is generate lots of clicks, not necessarily good customer leads. Some of the pop-ups make it hard NOT to click them, as they generate some graphics that make it appear you are closing the window, then you get clicked over. You are right, that HAS to generate more negative than positive perception of both companies.
I don't know of anyone who likes pop-ups. They must be effective for some, though, or as you say, they would cease to exist. I can't believe that MS has not come out with a feature of IE that prevents them, barring turning all Java off. You know they could if they wanted to. So, there must be some huge industry demand for them.
They are very annoying.
