Not quite sure what everybody's issue is with this--It's been known for decades that intense exercise carries some risk while you're doing it. In most cases it's far outweighed by the long-term benefits. The gain isn't so much in LONGER life--most studies show exercise and rigid weight control add three to five years, I think, on average. And it can't cancel out genetics--look at basketball player Pete Maravich or runner Jim Fixx, who died at early ages despite being in excellent condition. But it can boost the QUALITY of life dramatically: Instead of tapering from age 35 or 40, you go out in a fairly gentle decline to 70 or 75 or whatever you're genetically programmed for. And if he was doping, then it cancels the whole statistical deal anyway.
