Freedom Rock Pop-Quiz! What guitarist is noted only as '?'128

on this 1978 album and why? This guitarist went on to form and play in one of the most popular hard rock acts of all time. The record also contains a super-smash hit of the '70's that peaked at #8 on the charts The hit was her cover version of the song that she found on a tape on his car floor. The quitarist does not play on the super-smash hit, but on another track. The hit song was originally written by the same guy who took aim at a hot socio-political issue
through song and was soon smartly rebuffed in song as well by another band which other band derives it's name from a gym teacher.

Team effort encouraged....

(hard to Google-proof quiz questions these days...)

After re-reading your post several times, I finally figured it out. However, in order to provide others the chance, I will kneel on the sidelines for now and see if others can get it. I wonder if some of the young folks will know it, though.

I'm pretty sure I know who it is. Your comment about the young folks is a clue.

Obviously the song was written by Neil Young..and the gym teacher is Skynrd. Not sure what album he is listed as ? though.

credited only as '?' b/c he had just signed a deal with one label, making it "illegal" for him to play on another label while under contract.. So, they didn't credit him by name.
'?' is not Neil Young. The song '?' played on is "Can't get Away from You' (and a blistering solo it is there with a hint of the great talent to come)
Larson is said to have picked a cassette off of Young's car floor, liked the song, and he said 'It's yours.' And appenrently Lynard Skynard did get the name for their band by adopting their gym teachers name somehow. Sweet Home Alabama was their respose to Young's Southern Man, no hard feelings apparently....
Paul Barrére? Little Feat? (nm)ColnagoFE
