|What with September 11 coming tomorrow I thought I would post a few pictures of some of the Monuments in DC. Might make a nice screen saver or so for you.
Lets start with the Marine Corps Memorial in Arlington at dawn.

|I got this one right as the first rays of the sun backlit the flag.|

|Of all the memorials in DC, that one is the most haunting.
Your picture is superb. At first glance, it looks like a real patrol in the woods somewhere.

|The spring and fall equinox are the only days of the year where the statue of Lincoln deep inside his memorial gets touched by the full light of the rising sun. The rest of the year it is pretty dark in there.|

|The Washington Monument has this nice flag circle around it. One of my favorite views in DC.|

|The Marine Corps Band gives summertime evening concerts on the grounds of the Washington Monument. They are great. I am always suprised at how small the crowd is-not usually more than a couple of thousand people.
Here is a show of some of the audience resting on the Jersey barriers after sunset.
BTW I had to reduce these shots a lot to post them here. If anyone would like one of these photos with better resolution I would be glad to e-mail it to you this evening.

|When we lived in DC a friend of ours was a Park Service ranger at the Washington Monument. Her favorite question was, "How do you get all the flags to fly in the same direction?"|

|Great colors! We get sunsets like that frequently in Colorado but I never grow tired of them. It's amazing how much energy those monuments carry even though the events they symbolize are before my lifetime.|
