|Kinda cruel, but maybe it would have been better if that asteroid dropped right down on the Israel/Palestinian mess.
That would have ended it.
Funny that we are probably going to spend zillions of bucks on star wars defense and this asteroid almost annihilated something, and we totally missed it. Need to spend more cash on space.
Makes you wonder how insignificant human life is in the universe. Not only do we have to leave the solar system, but the galaxy, before we collide with other galaxies. If the planet doesn't nuke itself first.

|It's quite amazing the number of near misses there have been in the recent past and how clueless the average person is to their destructive power.
Also, most observatories that watch for this sort of thing are in the northern hemisphere. There's no program as of such in the southern hemispehere so basically we are screwed if an earth crosser blind sides us from the south.

|because there's little to be done about it - we can't stop an asteroid. we could detonate our entire stock of nuclear weapons inside one and it wouldn't be destroyed.
there was one impact in Siberia. the blast was somewhere in the hundreds of megatons range, as I recall. that counts as a minor one.

|That asteroid that smashed into jupiter a few years back. If jupiter wasn't where it was, we would all be toast by now!|| |
