I'm really hesitant to bring this up, but what would you do (where would you post) if this website ceased to exist? I suppose anything is possible these days. I really hope not, but what are the alternatives?

Is there something comparable in terms of friendliness, ease of use, information, and interests?

I lurk at the following occasionally:

Velonews. More technical, not as many posts, but a pretty knowledgable group.

Cyclingforum. A smaller group, fewer topics Not as user friendly but some good Info.

Serotta & Calfee User Forums. Biased, but again a pretty good group.

This is the place I post & I would miss it, but I suppose that if it were gone we would all end up at one of the above.

A whole lot less flames and trolls. (I kind of like flames and trolls.)

Is there such a thing?

Just kidding-

I used to spend quite a bit of time at the Bicycling Magazine Forums. Back when this one had a little too much testosterone flowing though it.

Either I've toughened up, or it's mellowed out here - but I can't handle the warm fuzzies in the other one anymore. And for tips, this one wins, hands down.

As Gregg wrote a few weeks ago (I paraphrase)....this forum generates income from many sources, including we (the members) buying items through the above "hot deals" link. So support those retailers. Maybe to help preserve our favorite forum, mention this link in the 'comments' box when making an online purchase. Just an idea.

*This note is in no way indicating that this forum is in trouble - I just want to keep it that way. I don't work for this forum either.

I'm sure there have been people online longer than me, but for the past 4 or more years I've been keeping tabs on various bike-related forums. This one was near dead at one time and now it seems pretty lively--they come and go as do the people. Other good ones are cyclingforum.com--a bit more serious that this...lots of discussions of way high end stuff and weight weenie talk. The only board that beats that is the BSN forum. Of course you have velonews.com and occasionally I look at bicyling.com. that pretty much is all i keep tabs on besides rec.bicycles on USENET.
