Zoe's is a lot of fun - great martinis, good pan-Asian food. The Saigon Cafe is also excellent. For breakfast or brunch I suggest Duff's. All of these are within a block of each other in the West End.

Stay away from "St. Louis Italian" at all costs. You can spot St. Louis Italian by its generous use of a cheese called Provel, and its propensity to deep fry stuffed pastas. It is, in my opinion, the most brutal local cuisine in the United States.

I'm from St. Louis, and the Italian food down on the Hill is widely considered to be great dining. Your complaint is the first I've ever heard.

I agree w/you on Zoe, though. Took the g/f there for Valentines this year.

JS -- can't give you much insight on actual downtown fare. The Central West End and the Hill aren't actually downtown. There are a few resturants, but the only ones coming to mind are high dollar.

Doug's right -- the season opener is Monday. Get a dog.
