I like Lexus, but have a chevette budget. Should I get a Pontaic Aztek or a old Checy Blazer? Also like the new Saturn SUVs

Aztecs are possibly the ugliest vehicles built in the last 30 years, and there have been quite a few ugly ones. Why would you want a gass-guzzler, anyway? If you like the idea of the Aztec, get a Buick Rendevous. Somehow Buick was able to take that same platform and not make it butt-ugly. Another suggestion-Subaru Forrester. Just got a '99 and I love that thing. Well equppied for less than 25K and it'll run forever. More ground clearance than an Explorer and you can get about 27mpg on the highway-I got 22 driving around town, playing rally-driver (I don't drive very slow......)
Forester not more ground clearance than ExplorerColnagoFE

They state it has more ground clearance than a "Explorer Sport"...big difference between a standard Explorer and a Explorer Sport. Also the new 2002 Explorers have even more ground clearance than before (9.2 inches compared to 7.5 for the Forester). Let alone that the Forester doesn't have a low range which is a neccesity for real off-roading. The Forester is a good option if a smaller car is OK, no big trailer hauling and no serious off-roading is needed. Explorer also gets crap gas mileage.
Ok, I stand corrected.look271

Still, most people don't need SUV's. Something like a Forester, Honda CRV, Toyota Rav 4 (yeah, I know they call it and SUV, but it's really a wagon), station wagon, or dare I say it, minivan are better choices.
totally agree -- most dont need SUVsColnagoFE

$25,000 for the Best 4x4xFar.

I am a very satisfied owner of a Discovery. I would recommend Land Rover over anything out there if you want a truck that is going to be used off road. My Discovery is off road at least once a week and it does much better than my previous SUV's (Jeep and Nissan). It doesn't haul ass like a Lexus, Mercedes ML, or BMW X5 but it will bury them off road. The Freelander is the most popular SUV in Europe and tested better than the Jeep Liberty in this months Car and Driver.
Discovery was too small for usColnagoFE

Freelander doesn't look any bigger and the bigger land rovers are too much $. The Explorer fit the bill for us but havent had much chance to do any serious off-roading with it yet other than a couple of snowstorms where i had to lock up the differential (4x4 high).
