My car is dieing a slow death...biknben

Anyone got $5,300 for a new VW engine?

Crack in the cyclinder block or blown gasket somewhere at 193,000 miles. Gonna limp around for a while and see how long it lasts. Cycling to work 55 miles, one way, is not an option.

Totally bummed

I don't think the rest of the car would be up to a $5,000 investment.

You might be able to find an engine at a junk yard.

Better to spend that kind of money on a Toyota for $5k with 100k on it.

I've never done it, but you might check some of the on-line Virtual Junk yards for an engine. Here's one:

You might do a search on Google for more...

Dr. Kevorkian is too kind for a VW bus.

Fill it with explosives. Then shoot at it until it blows up.

Make sure you put enough TNT in it so it isn't recognizable when you are done. No piece bigger than a quarter.

Then, move on to the next one. We must rid this world of the scourge of this horrible vehicle.

$5300 for the new engine huh? A complete rip off if you ask me.

Brand new 350 from GM, probably 3 times the horsepower and truckloads more torque than that VW engine, ~$1300.00.

I have no intention of replacing the engine. There are no GM products in my future either. I'll be shopping around for my next VW.

I got the car back last night and, well, it's running.

I'll keep a close eye on things for a while.

Holy cow! That makes my 50 miles look like a morning stroll. I'll trade you. You're VW Bug for my 95 Skylark Quad4 w/90,000 miles, minus 1 heater core. Good news is, it was the head gasket (this time).

Take advantage of those intrest rates!
think how strong you will get riding 110miles a day:)C-mond

...But I finally traded it in last fall because it need a lot of front end work and I could'nt see putting any money into it. Now I have a car payment and heve to scrape for $ to buy bike parts. Oh well!
