Are any non-Yankee fans getting behind the Yankees in the Series this year? I know we're supposed to get behind NY, but it's hard to root for a team that has been so dominant recently. As much as I hate the Mets, I would have been able to root for them if they had made the Series. Rooting for a rag-tag group of overachievers out of NY would have been a no-brainer (I'm not saying that definition fits the Mets). However, I'm not sure I'll be able to overcome my natural tendency to root for any team playing the Yankees. Am I a bad person?

I've played baseball all of my life and love the sport. However, I've made a decision not to watch one bit of the world series this year. I'm a die-hard baltimore fan and can't stand the yankees. Yes, I'll accept all of your jokes about baltimore, but just because they suck doesn't mean the yankees are some great team. They happen to beat other teams in the playoff, whether that's because other teams start to really blow, or the yankees can somehow elevate their play in the off-season is up for debate. I just can't wait until their lackluster play in the regular season translates into them not making the playoffs one year...of course for that to happen the other AL east teams need to get a lot better.

That's a long answer to a short question, but you can never go wrong when rooting against the yankees.

It will certainly be easier without Atlanta there. The Diamondbacks are such underdogs that support should come easily. I haven't liked the Yankeees since they started buying their pennants and championships in the 70's. Remember Reggie Jackson?

The answers are:, no, and no; you're not a bad person.

and enjoy the final games of the season.

Being relieved of any obligation to root for the Yankees, I will hope against hope that the D-Backs pull it off. I lived in AZ for a few years, so that will make it a bit easier to get behind them. Damn Yankees.
GO D-BACKS! :o) nmAllen az

The D-Backs should be feeling pretty confident after a 9-1 opening game victory: good pitching, good hitting, good baseball. The Yankees, on the other hand, will have to look hard for any positives from game 1: shaky pitching, porous defense, and quiet bats. Now they're up against Johnson in game 2 in AZ. However, even if AZ takes game 2, they'll have to keep in mind what the Yankees did to Oakland. And they'll be headed for the Bronx. All in all, it was nice to see the Yankees look so bad for a change.
Can you root for the D-Backs after they took out ...ACE-

your Dodgers? I know the Backs are underdogs, but I've watched almost every game this year and seen some incredible baseball. I hope they can put together 4 GREAT games out of the next 7, they have worked hard and really deserve to win. A lot of veteran players and I think only 1 has won the series.
I can do itmickey-mac

I'll generally root for any team that makes it out of the NL West. The sole exception is the Giants. I like the squad the DBacks have put together. I've always hope Matt Williams would end up on a championship team. Craig Counsel is a scrapper and seems to be a nice kid. I only wish Murdoch had opened the wallet for Randy Johnson instead of wasting his money on a salary and private jet for that jackass Kevin Brown.

The Yankees don't need any sympathy. The Mets I could have rooted for, but never the Yankees. I'm a Braves fan and I was actually rooting for the other NL teams this year. It's time for someone new. Go Diamondbacks!

Here's a link to an article by CNN/SI/NPR sports commentator Frank DeFord giving us permission to root against the Yankees and still be patriots. He tends to be a bit of a pompous windbag, but he's saying what I want to hear:
