bikeshopper.net - any good?zmarke

Has anyone purchased a bike from them?

Are they any good?
I'm looking at one of their Cannondale tandems.......gogene

...but I dunno. No phone number, I can't find anything in the Richmond Hill NY directory for Martin Trading, nothing on the Internet about them, did a search by their address, no luck. They want me to send a check under these circumstances? Man, the sphincter factor is huge! If you have any luck, please let us know!
solution: US Postal Money Orderweiwentg

if they screw you they are in deep trouble (postal inspectors and all that). if they won't accept that, then forget them.
US Postal Money Order or not, you're still out the bucks.....gogene

....if they skip. It can take more than a short while for Postal inspectors to investigate and then catch the guys. Even if they are convicted of fraud, the chances of getting 100% restitution in slim to none.

Yep, gogene is right, you can file all the reports you want, waste your time, you won't necessarily get a cent back. And to add insult to injury, you'll actually have to pay a fee to do a trace on the money order.

I just sent an email and we will see what sort of response I get. If they stated to be in Richmond Hill NY then that is good for me. They are close to me and I may pe able to do an in-person sale. I will update as this moves along!

36 Hours and no responsezmarke
Oct 16, 2002 11:45 AM
I sent an email but have not received a response and it has been over 36 hours. I just sent a second email in which I mentioned this current thread on RBR and that I would be willing to do a face-to-face sale with them since I live nearby and then post my experiences.

I will update as the story unfolds...

They Responded - Lots of Excuses...zmarke
Oct 18, 2002 4:06 AM
I received a response from "Anthony Martin, Vice President/Martin Trading" and he just seemed to make excuses for everything and avoided my questions.

I asked about why the comnpany only took money orders. He responded with, "We never told anyone that we ONLY accept money orders. We accept money orders, cashiers checks, Bidpay and E-Gold" which basically means they only take cash payments putting all of the risk on buyers.

I asked about using an Escrow service paid for by the buyer and he reposnded with, "NO, we do not do COD." which is not the same thing but again puts all of the risk on the buyer.

I asked about credit card payments and he responded with, "Within the next 60-90 days our shopping cart will be up and running." which has nothing to do with taking credit card payments.

Anyway, I sent one last email to see if maybe I am just completly wrong about this company but I doubt it with everything that has happened so far.

Please post your experiences if you dealt with them.

I received the 2000 Bad Boy that I ordered from BikeShopper.net today by freight truck. I am happy with the bike, though it is not as nice as the 2002 & 2003 models. It is not as built up as the Bad Boy Ultra or Bad Boy Scalpel, but for what I paid I have no complaints.

Sine you have never posted on RBR or MTBR before would you mind posting more information to help the rest of us?

Could you post an actual picture of the bike and not an image from the Cannondale website?
How was the bike packed? Can you post a picture?

Can you post an image of the bill of sale or packing slip?
(obviously with your personal information removed)
If no packing slip was included there should at least be a shipping sticker/form on the box from the trucking company or a "bill-of-way" that you had to sign upon receipt.

If you are not able to post due to a lack of a digital camera would you be willing to fax me the packing slip or bill of sale and I will be more than happy to help post.

If not, can you at least post the company's information from the packing slip or bill of sale like the return address or phone number.

Thanks.

After reading this thread I wouldnt deal with them.

After all, it is your hard earned money you are sending, and their are plenty of other sites/companies that have a solid reputation.

I work in equipment finance, where we lend money to folks and expect to be repaid, and the first rule is, if your initial feeling isnt super good, back off, go somewhere else.
