|Where can I find the best deal on spokes? I am looking for black, double-butted 14/15 spokes. Preferrably from a reputable company like Wheelsmith or DT. The best prices I can find (so far) are:
14/15 (Silver): $.50
15g Straight (Black): $.50
However, I can get straight silver ones for $.20. Hmmmm... (My rims, handlebars, and cables are all black and I like black components, but I'm not sure if it's worth the price difference).
I'm building a set of wheels for touring, and I want them to be TOUGH (for rough roads). However, I only weigh 140. What is the weight difference between straight and double butted and advantages/disadvantages? Thanks.

|Best deals are from Kevin at www.icycles.com He will custom cut the size you need and the prices are great. A double butted spoke is more resiliant and can take more cycles than a straight spoke. For that reason alone I would build touring wheels with them as the more reliable you bike is the better for touring. Brass nipples are also a good idea. I like SAPIM nipples as they have aself locking feature that keeps them from vibrating loose over a long period, kind of like insurance.
