Does this smell like a SCAM?Myake

Hi All,

I've seen a bike on eBay I would love to buy.
Seller has real good reviews (over 7000)

After we've made a deal via email, there was another winner of the auction. Now he claims he has more of the same bikes available. (also in different sizes)

This concerns a Cannondale scalpel 3000 for just $2300 (included shipping overseas).

But he wants me to transefer the money via western union money transfer. So I asked him if we can't do it 50% upfront and 50% after delivery. He does not see this as a problem.

He claims to be a private seller who gets his bikes directly from from Cannondale Bicycle Corp. This does not seem right to me.

He really wants me to 'buy' the bike. Responds quickly to emails. Is a well know trader on eBay. but it still does not feel right.

Can anyone give me some advice on this?

As a long time ebay user I would not do it. When I have sold bikes or anything else I get the money up front. When I buy I pay up front-no exceptions. I have been contacted by ebay on two ocassions recently where someone has tried to take over my account and I have been forced to change passwords and CCs tied to the account. Pain in the ass to say the least. I have bought some stuff recently where I have been contacted by other buyers of the same stuff saying the product is a fraud. The end result is that I have given up buying on this site or ebay. There are still some sellers that I continue to do business with that sell on MTBR but I also find that buying new stuff from Jenson, Performance, etc comes very close to used prices and I don't have the hassle. When I worked for a shop I got scammed (1/2003 posted on this site) from Indonesia. It was an expensive lesson. I have also bought and paid for goods from a well rated ebayer and got nothing. No more. Your clue should be the seller is willing to take 1/2 up front. If you do it I think you have a better chance of seeing pigs fly than seeing the Scalpel, but it is your money.
