|I'm doing the 70 mile training ride in Harrisburg, NC this Saturday morning. My question is this: What SHOULD I eat the night before and that morning of the ride? Pasta? What about a big breakfast? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.|

|I'm doing the century on saturday at Palm Springs CA and plan to do serious carbo load via pasta the night before. I'm not a big breakfast eater so I always eat whole wheat cereal and a banana the morning before a long ride.

|Plain pasta with Marinara, bread and lot's of water the night before. 1 Power bar
Morning of ride that size, two bags of instant oatmeal, banana, 1 power bar, water with Accelerade. two bags of Power bar bites in jersey pocket. Two water bottles with one scoop of accerlerade and 1 scoop of Endurox in each bottle. The rest of the ride is pure water no Endurox or Accelerade. Works for me.

|If you can finish a 70 miler after eating all of that stuff it will be a miracle! Problem is, advertising for these products has overwhelmed the public to the point that basic nutrition for this type of an event is ignored. The amount of sugar consumed in this post (excluding the breakfast of oatmeal and banana which is good stuff) is astronomical! The crap that they put in Power Bars is really no friend of the cyclist for long rides. You are much better off eating natural foods with protein and high fiber carbs for an all day ride such as this. Consume something like Hammergel to get you through the ride instead of those loaded with sugar.|| |
