Shonan Village Ride Reportfredstaple

This is one of the few rides where I can get out and enjoy a little country side. It is also a great climb with 7 to 9 percent grades. Started out from my Japanese house, some of the trained trees are so cool.

My ride starts out great with a good downhill slope, this is what my neighborhood looks like.

After about 10 K I get to the climb, this is a shot about half way up.

View From near the top. It is a great view of Sgami Bay, a bay just south of Tokyo Bay.

This is a shrine entrance I passed along the way, these are everywhere in Japan as churches are in the US. Many have lions or foxes that guard the gate. This one also has four WWII era naval shells which is pretty cool. The shrine itself sits up on the hill to the left.

Another shrine along the way. These are beautiful and impressive structures. I never grow tired of finding new ones.

My ride is over. This is a place I can see from where I work. Funny to see the Statue of Liberty in downtown Yokosuka. Even funnier when you see that it is sitting on top of the Hotel Goddess. Hotel Goddess is the local love hotel, rooms by the couple of hours for enjoying a quickie. Many Japanese live in the house with their parents and privacy is not much. Love hotels offer a place where couples can go to escape for a few hours. Some are very fancy and have themes, the middle ages, bondage, etc. They are legit, not houses of ill-repute and many married couples go to them. Have a great ride!
Nice ride, great pics! thanks.....nmrwbadley

...with the crystal chandeliers, giant karaoke machines, full-service bars and the brass-and-scarlet-crushed-velvet whorehouse decor. I always got a kick out of seeing those trundling along the highways--almost as good as coming across one of those WalMart-sized, neon-encrusted pachinko parlors in the middle of nowhere at night.

Only a few more weeks before I'm back home riding by those lovely temples. It looks like the weather was really nice. I guess the unusually warm winter still has its hold on Japan? Maybe I won't buy the Assos thermal bib tights that I've been lusting over; as the weather just doesn't look cold enough to need them. Thanks for the ride report!!!

Ride On!
