This should be a good year, it is going through 3-4 towns near some population centers (at least for Iowa). This means a larger turnout, bigger parties, and perhaps wilder times.

Also, near some of the larger towns you stand a chance of getting a hotel / motel room for some of the nights (if you book very soon, like today)

Follow the link above for all the info.

Best Regards from IOWA, land of pigs and corn.
What is the pace for this?racerx

With 10-12,000 bikes there is a little of everything and anything.

Some finish the daily route (60-80 miles) in 3 hours, some take 12 hours, some stagger in at 2 AM after they close down the bar in the last stop town.

I'm an early riser so get up just before dawn and watch the sunrise on the bike. Once the sun is up there are often some good pace lines to jump onto. It's common to see a couple of tandems breaking the wind with a couple of dozen bikes grapping a free ride behind. Even in the pacelines it is considered tacky to race, even though I've crossed 30+ miles in a single hour in some of these lines.

On the other end you have folks enjoying the senery and atmosphere, taking their time, stopping at all the towns to enjoy what they have to offer. (what RAGBRAI is really about)

The pace is up to you. The only suggestion is that you try to get off the road before dark and the SAG wagons start becoming scarce after 6 PM (except for some late night runs picking up the drunks at the last stop town)

Something for everybody, naked beer slides to eating mom's apple pie.

You'll be in pacelines with the worst squirrels the history of Bikedom has ever seen. Better off to sleep in, stop and enjoy the welcome each little town puts on and make a day of it. The only advantage of getting there early is that you might get a warm shower in the local car wash instead of the usual cold one.

Should be a great route this year. Depending on how many RBR show up. We should plan a get together for some beers or at least some Iowa Sweet corn.
