With the Tour of Georgia a go, is Lance commmitted or is he going to the Gila as he said he might a month or so ago?

"We're still working on the domestic program. There will definitely be one US race in there, either Tour de Georgia or Tour of the Gila, we're not quite sure yet," [Armstrong] said. (Jan 27)

Tour de Georgia did press release on 1/23 indicating commitment from US Postal, several quotes from team managers. Wonder if the right hand and the left hand are talking?

The altitude is high with lots of long climbs. Seems it would be a better training environment for a climber getting ready for a season. As for the competition, it will follow where USPS is. Georgia does have some hills, but not the altitude.

My money is on the 'Gila. Georgia doesn't have the big mountain stages and if that's what Lance is foucusing on during the early season it's the natural choice. I think Freddy Rodriguez won the mountain stage at last year's Tour de Georgia so it must not be much of a mountain. I'd love to see Lance do the race in Georgia because that's driveable from where I'm at, but I would be really surprised if he chooses it.

I am hoping for the Gila for the same reason you're hoping for the Tour of Georgia... but somehow I'm thinking that appearance fees and sponsorship exposure is going to drive him to the Tour of Georgia :-(

I would agree. The Tour de Georgia will have way more media coverage, giving the sponsors greater exposure which could factor into the decision. But on the other hand Lance being in the race in NM will bring in ten times the media coverage it would normally get. I guess we'll know either way very soon.
