04 Jamis Comet, Specialized Roubaix Elite, or Cannondale R1Kmethosage

I currently own a Trek 8000 hardtail MTB. I am now realizing I am actually a road cyclist at heart. I use my MTB to commute and have done 3 MS150 rides on it. However, I am now interested in obtaining a road bike, with the purpose of training and beginning to race. My price limit is <$2000 (actually it should be <$1000, I have not told my wife yet I may want to spend twice as much).

I was currently considering the 2004:
Jamis Comet, Specialized Roubaix Elite, or Cannondale R1000.

I have not taken any of them for test rides yet. I know fit is the most important factor. However, assuming they all fit me equally well, does anyone have any suggestions on these bikes.

Thank You!

Personally I was torn between the Allez comp and the R1000 this fall. This is before I knew of the release of the Roubaix. I'm more then happy with the R1000, the wheel set is a little better and the traditional geometry fits me better. Its all about the fit. I've never seen the Jamis in person so I really can't comment on it, but if the Roubaix is anything like the Allez then I'd give the nod to the c'dale in blk( the Sobe green really stands out though). I was on 4 other bikes before I settled on the c'dale. Just ride everything you can (I'm like you, converted dirt guy). If you want to stay under $1000, my buddy picked up last years Felt 105 (I thinks it's a F65, but its made it Taiwan I thinks) bike for $800 and he loves the thing.

Good luck
