|I'm trying to prepare for my 70 mile ride on Feb. 7th. Since this is my first ride, what do I need to do to prepare? Any riding techniques I need to know about? Any good stretches or workouts I can do to help out? Do I need to take my bike in to the LBS and let them check it out first? Thanks! ....Justin|

|Is this your first 70 mile ride? What is the most you have ever ridden? I think you should be able to ride 56miles (or 80% of 70 miles) by yourself. The reason is if your riding in a group you can draft and save roughly 20% of your energy. Probably won't be able to draft the whole time though.|

|Hopefully you have been riding enough up to this point. As was stated before, you should be able to ride 80% of the total distance without much problem. Depending on when in Feb your ride is, it's probably too late to make any training suggestions that would have too much of an impact.
General good advice for longer rides is to drink at least 1 bottle of fluid (preferably sports drink) per hour and eat enough to keep you from bonking. Usually a Clif Bar or PowerBar every 45 minutes past the first hour should be adequate.

|If you can ride about 50 miles 2 to 3 times a week comfortably you will have no problems. Take a couple water bottles and a pocket full of protien bars with you. You will want a patch kit or tube also if you are not supported of course an air pump would go with that. Clothing will depend on weather.
