Finsbury Park Station in North London - 8:30

a friend and I are leaving urban London for rural Herts - it's about 3 C (below 40 F) with a constant wind and shallow winter sunshine - it's been raining for the past 5 days and the roads are wet - it's a 25 minute train ride to Stevenage where the ride will start

No I didnt do any riding while I was there since I was with my girlfriend at the time =/ ...who actually I met at a bike shop =)I have been to Brihton but only for a day. I am returning to the UK for fun and if you wanna run around Brighton or Traf. square I would be happy to follow you on some of your weekly bike treks. As a matter of fact that would be a blast!

I take it the report was today, Saturday. Beautiful day with a bit of wind out of the west. Beautiful countryside you were in and nice roads.

Next few days look like pants but there you go. Got the ride in under brilliant conditions.
Nice reportMJ

yep - it was Saturday - a lucky day by the weather of last week and the forecast of this week - gotta take it when you can get it

do you ever get out of London for the day? any regular routes? Herts/Beds is on my regular list following easy access on the train - as is Surrey/Hants with a riding buddy in Guildford - have also ridden west to Oxford a few times - the stretch between Reading and Oxford through the Chilterns is some of the finest riding in southern England that I've seen

did you recover from your crash? stop overtaking on the inside?

Thanks for asking. Got doored a fortnight after on the other side. Big finger gash and shoulder's a bit problematic. Nothing one can't ride through. Currently riding with a bit more caution but undoubtedly, as time passes, I'll not be using the best judgement. Good reason for selling my motorbike 30+ years ago.

I do get out of London but ride out via Richmond Park and then head out towards to Staines via Walton. Never done the train bit. I suppose I should but just never gotten around to doing so. Great pics though and nice looking roads.

Thanks for sharing, seeing anything green out along a ride is like candy for my eyes.
there's more rainfall in the UK than in the rainforestMJ
Jan 25, 2004 4:09 AM
maybe an exaggeration - but it keeps things green
