I just rode my first 30 miles on a road bike. It felt great although a little on the chilly side outside. I'm from NC and it's around 28 degrees outside. Not as cold as up north. I feel for you all up there. I don't have a bike computer just yet but my Nike watch timer said it took me 1 hour 45 minutes. I don't know what my average speed is in mph. I'll get a computer soon. Anyways, thanks to all who have helped me with my questions and gave me positive feedback. This is a very helpful website. .......Justin

That is about a 17 mph avg. If you were in no real discomfort, I think you'll be just fine for your upcoming 70-miler.

Thank you for figuring up my average speed. That lets me know where I stand until I can pick up a comp.
Don't get too caught up with speed - yetbimini

Go for a substainable pace and put in miles or hours, don't focus on MPH. You will be using new muscles on the road frame and they will need time to adapt. Once you have built a base you can start working on speed.
