I didn't know if you would see the response if I attached it to the topic from the other day concerning the mudflap girls (MFGs) and the Haul'n Ass Race Team's (HART) jersey design. I respect your view and concerns about the MFGs that are on the back of our shorts and on our jersey, and shoescovers and socks actually. However, the intent of the MFG is not to objectify women, it's to relate and capture a bit of Americana and bring it into our somewhat eurocentric sport. A lot of the teams in the area seemed to be trying hard to be as euro as possible so we decided we wanted to be as american as possible. And not by just waving the flag and trying to hype nationalism but instead by embracing American "culture". I'm glad that the MFGs incited the thought of rednecks in pickemup trucks, that's what we were going for. We want to promote cycling as a sport as something that's as American as apple pie, monster trucks and Nascar. On a side note, we actually had so many sponsors that we ran out of space and started to look like a Nascar. It's to bad to because I wanted a big number 3 on the shoulder to pay our respects to Dale Earnhart.

Thanks to whoever posted the guy, I've been looking for a pic like that so we can make shorts for the Sweet HARTs women's team.

If you have any questions, please email me at webmaster@haulnass.com.

Thanks.

OK, I get the idea for your design, and I happen to like it. And I respect your opinion as well, and recognize that you have no ill intent. However, I don't know if you have to be intentionally objectifying women in order to be doing so.

I guess if I was trying to throw some Americana into the design, I would pick something that wasn't potentially offensive. Perhaps, it's because I see that little mirrored silhouette on mudflaps as the part of American culture that I would rather see end. There's plenty of other images that would fit your description, but it must work for your team, since both your male and female members have found it to their liking.

Just another opinion. Thanks for your response, thought you weren't going to respond. Much appreciated.
Go ahead and just say it!!niteschaos
