Sizing Question--HELP Please??ZenJones

I am 5 feet 11 inches w/a 29 1/2 or 30 inseam and obviously a longer torso. I am thinking about picking up a Trek 520 for an everyday rider bike. It's used and a very good price but it's a small(17)frame. Trek's website says the 17 frame on a 520 has a standover height of 27.4 inches with a top tube length of 21.3 inches... my wife also has a small framed road bike and when I straddle it the top tube just touches my man onions...

any thoughts on this? Is the 520 just going to be too small for me?

Thanks
I would passaOldMan

From Trek's geometry charts I would suggest that the bike is going to be too small for you.

Are your pants 29 1/2" or is your inseam actually 29 1/2"? I wear 29 1/2 pants but my true inseam is closer to 30 1/2".
Top tube would be too shortbimini

Even with a long stem your knees would be hitting your elbows. Wait for a better fitting frame to come along.

sounds like a pants inseam. I'm not quite 5'7" and my CYCLING inseam is longer.

Oh, and yes, the Trek will be way too small.
Thanks everyone for your input, I'll pass on the bike :(ZenJones

Thanks again though.

And yes, that inseam measurement was my pants. My actual inseam is 30.5.
