1st ride on the new KG 461 w/picsKG 361
Dec 27, 2003 1:38 PM
After a month or so of messing around getting parts swapped over from my 361, I finally got the KG 461 roadworthy. Everything will be as seen here except for the tires-yeah, I know they don't match but it's December 27th and it was 45F and sunny and I like the Panaracers and I'll get ones to match, OK? =) Anyway, it is stiffer than the 361 and a little less damped ride-wise, but it will climb better and still rides quite nicely. Here are a few pics;

As Seen here, 18.5 lbs for a 57cm frame. Not a super-lightweight but neither am I. I'm liking it a lot. Have to dial it in a bit, but so far for 30 miles it was pretty nice.
Very niceDave Hickey

I like the bike but wouldn't find pleasure riding expensive stuff for training year round.

Maybe one day when i am making over 100K I will buy myself stuff like this.

Jealous... in a good way

Woof the god.

... 100K might only be worth 50...

Despite the promise of white carbon on the horizon, my heart still belongs to that natural weave under clearcoat.

Here ya go!

One thing I have noticed with this Look-the finish is noticably nicer than my previous 2.

... this is my first foray into a full carbon frame (got a couple of rigs with CF stays, CF cranks and a bunch o CF forks) and aesthetically, the nude fibers ROCK and RULE!!!

... 'bout the only components I've got for the frame are them FSA Team cranks... Still recovering from the hoildayzzz... so it'll be a while before it's completed and ridden. I'm still planning on dressing it out with carbon tidbitz... and let those who scoff at my aesthetic endeavour be damned!!!

Nice. If you want a decent seatpost (natural weave under CC) and cages, I recommend the Weyless. Not as much wow-factor as the others but dammit they work well. The post that I put on my 461 is so much easier to adjust than the 'friggin ergopost that I had on my 361 and it cost about 1/2 as much.

... the frameset included a seatpost which looks every bit as good as a Campy (and probably the Weyless as well... got their cranks as well as FSA http://psycle-therapy.great-ride.com/fsa_and_weyless.htm )

... Believe it or not, I'm even considering an AX Lightness Apollo saddle!

http://www.ax-lightness.de/englisch/productssaddle.htm

I doubt my arse could handle it for an all day ride, but damn... it would look schweeeeet.

Dunno how well the Kuota seatpost will hold up and adjust, but the mechanism looks fundamental and generic (perhaps from the same factory as Weyless (Martek?)) Let's see... on one won the State's Mega Million drawing... and the Power Ball is ultra high too... hmmmmmm..

... kinda makes you curious as to the tangible (physical properites) changes that have occured in the past 12 years...

In today's markets, both carbon fiber and titanium have lost their otherworldy allure of the previous decade... and both materials seem to have undergone some significant "advances". I just found an old issue of "Bicycle Guide/Bicyclists" that features this newfangled wonder material... it'll make a good read as I head off for the throne.

Got the frame and fork for $800. Swapped over my stuff from the 361. Only purchased the cages and seatpost new. They're Weyless for crissakes! Will sell the old 361 for at least $400, I hope. $50 or so for the post (Look ergopost) and I haven't spent a lot of $$. Not that I had to justify it to you =) Have an old Nishiki to train on when it's crappy.

But seriously, a nicely built bike. It all works well together.

A Question: What ever happened to steel my friends? (Not an insult at all;) )

The cream is fixed and the black and tan will be shortly-I think. Tossing around the idea of breeding her-she has a champion in her bloodline and Shibas fetch a pretty nice price for registered pups.

hey. what about their temperament. how are shiba inus? they are guard dogs? man, they are beautifull!
Thanks.KG 361
Dec 29, 2003 11:34 AM
Not guard dogs, although the cream has nipped at Mr. Brownshorts pants a few times. They do let you know if anyone is outside-they will bark quite loudly! They are very cat-like in that they don't need a lot of attention and can keep themselves occupied for long periods of time-they are not "lap dogs". very energetic and affectionate but they can also be a lot of work. Sometimes too smart for their own good. They definately need to be on a chain ofr in a fenced iin yard or they will run and forget where they came from, who their master uis, etc. They were bred as hunting dogs and once they get oustide and can run, look out.
nice..now you need a carbon sofacolker1

I had a "contest" to see what it should be after I bought it. Something not quite as sp0ecific to a bike, as it appears that I am going through bikes a little too quickley =) Think I'll do it when we switch to the new software on the board; you know, "start anew". =)

Very nice bike, for a FANTASTIC price! Good work! I was wondering how it would look with red bar tape, black cables, and red/black Pro Race or Rubino Pros... and maybe peel the stickers off the Kyseriums? 'Course, as you can see below, I tend to partiality for the red trim... And I do like steel!

Get her dialed in and give us a more in-depth ride report!

Yeah, the tape was a case of it was the best that they had at the time. My LBS is also a ski shop in the winter, so they don't stock a lot of bike stuff. I like the gray cables but I am going to get different tires; I don't like Michelins or Vittorias so I'd probably get some Panaracers in red or maybe some Vreds or Specialized. Just waiting for a good price :) Might do the red tape as well when this wears out (or I get tired of it).
