Would this ding concern you?...Tantrum

I'm looking at a Reynolds 853 frame with a small BB-sized ding on the top tube about 4 inches from the head tube (see picture). Should I be concerned about this ding? What should I do to protect the area from corrosion?

Wouldn't concern me in the least. Maybe scratch it up, cover it as best possible with some black rustoleum primer that you brush on, then try to match paint/decal. But that sucker is TINY.

The tube is fine although it would bother me to look at it and here's what I would do. Either fill it in with paint or nail polish and let it dry. I would then find a sticker that I really like and cover it. Out of sight, out of mind.

No. I would clean the area and use either touch-up paint or clear nail polish to protect the steel. The ding is cosmetic and should not affect the integrity of the tubing.

Thanks all...Tantrum

What you have right now is a barely noticeable cosmetic ding. If you try to paint over it, there's the perfect match and there's not exactly. Anything that doesn't match absolutely perfectly might just as well be neon yellow because it draws attention to the blemish. My recommendation is a little clear nail polish to cover the bare metal.

Move the dime up to where it covers the chipped paint. (A joke!)

I would have to find something to touch it up with, paint or fingernail polish, to make it less noticable.
