Tandem Shipping?mtnb1kr

Has anyone ever shipped a tandem before. I am going to be ebaying a Trek T100 Tandem next month and am not shure how to ship it. I have a tandem box but it will be too large for UPS. A freight carrier will be fairly expensive I would think also not sure how to do that. Any Ideas? Also if anyone is interested in it before I list it, I'm asking $700. Please feel free to contact me. I'm in Wisconsin. I tried attaching a picture but it wouldn't take. If you want I'll send some through e-mail. harman1@charter.net

mtnb1kr,

Call a local bike shop that deals in tandems for who they use for shipping. If you dont have a local shop call Santana, Co-Motion or Burly to see who they use. There is a trucking company that specializes in tandems but I cant remember what the name is. I used them when I bought a Triplet from a guy in WA state and had it shipped to SF Bay Area. Cost me about $160 for trucking.

If you sell the tandem on Ebay I would guess the buyer is going to pay the shipping and handling. You may want to just hand the bike over to your local bike shop for packing and stay out of that. I would think that if the bike was damaged during shipping they could be a witness to the condition beforehand. Plus, if it was determined to be a poor packing job their insurance may pay for the damage. You may want to insist that the tandem be deliverd to the buyers choice of bike shop so the bike shop can inspect it to determine if any damage had occured during shipping.

What kind of tandem are you selling?

I can't believe I cant remember what the shipping company is called but if you find out a few let me know as I will know it if I am reminded. They did a fine job of shipping but the most important part is the packing.

Santana and Burley use Danzas Airfreight. Seems like it costs around $100.00 to ship most anywhere in the contiguous 48 from St. Louis, but that's from a business address.
