|I'd like some more info. So, what level of package did you buy? Is it working? Can you basically buy the book and come up with the same advice/coaching as the online coach gives you?

|Yes, the Perform level, which is the one you get for $75/mo if you have a USCF racing license. Will tell you if it "works" next racing season. But part way through my 2nd month, three observations: with CTS I'm spending less total time on the bike, but more specific workouts (intervals, cadence, big gear sprints, etc.); many of the workouts are not things I would have done on my own (either I wouldn't have thought of them, or they aren't "fun" - the tendency when doing this yourself is to train your strengths, not your weaknesses); and lastly, the coaches reply almost immediately to questions, and are quite willing to modify workout plans to fit your time availability & schedule. While you might be able to come up with a similar schedule yourself from either Friel's or Carmichael's books, I wouldn't have come up with the variety of workouts, and I would not have given myself enough rest days. While I understand periodization, on my own I tend to the "more is better" approach, which the CTS coach avoids (so I get rest days!)|| |
