Need quick help: Time Avant Fork and compression plugjcpreuss

I just picked up a Time Avant fork for my Cannondale CAAD5 frame. The fork did not come with a compression plug or star nut, but it did come with a "microset." Can any 1 1/8" compression plug work with this fork? Also, what does the microset do?

Any help would be appreciated.

If this is a standard Cannondale type of road fork, you can use it with a regular star fangled nut or expander system, depending on whether the material of the steerer tube is aluminum or carbon fiber respectively.

However, Cannondale also has a custom system available for carbon steerer forks. It consist of a very tall preload cap that protrudes about 35mm into the top of the fork and a single flange star nut. The latter requires a special star nut seating tool for optimal results, which ensures proper alignment and the correct 40mm depth. The part number for the tool is KT014/. It costs around $40 so it's not really worth getting for most home mechanics.

Not idea what the "microset" is. Perhaps you can describe how it looks like?
