i found a nice GT track bike for a good price. but it's a 58cm and i'm 6'1". right now i ride an old Trek 320, 60cm. it feels a little big and gives me pain in my neck when i'm on it for over 1 hour. The bike i want to purchase has a track geometry. please help, sale won't last.

I looked at a few gtb's 3 years ago and was told to buy one size smaller than my road bike. Id guess if your 6'1" a 58 would be usable. is it 58 c to c or 58 c to top? are you planning on racing it on the track or using it as a "fixie"?

i don't know, it just says 58cm. it's a gtb as well, how are they measured? i may try it out on a velodrome, but will mainly use it as a "fixie".

pretty sure they were measured c to c.

I am 6'0" and rented a 58 GT at the local velodrome. I felt too stretched out and exchanged it for another brand. Then again I probably could have gotten it to fit if I could have swapped the stem. If you are getting it to race on the track it might be too large, otherwise you can probably make it fit.

thank you for the post, helps a lot. if i get that bike i will probably get a new carbon fork, a new stem and a new handlerbar. so if you, at 6'0", felt stretched out than i, at 6'1" should be closer to the right fit(hopefully!).

but was it a GT GTB-1?

I don't know what model it was, it was black and had the characteristic tripple triangle. Just FYI, I have a relatively long inseam (88cm), and usually ride a 57cm toptube + 110mm stem. Chances are if your torso is longer, you'll fit better on the GT than me...

Measure the TT on your Trek, then see what the TT on the GT is. If its within about a cm, buy it. Too long? Run a shorter stem. Too short? Run a longer stem.

There's so many different stems/bars out there that you can probably make it work.

Re: the pain in the neck. Track races are so short that I'll be surprised if you're on the bike more than 10-15min at a time.
