Do you ride the Fizik Aliante? Please sit down.....High Gear
Dec 6, 2003 12:47 PM
I noticed the other day that Performance had the Ti Aliante for $179. I thought this was a misprint and called Bikemine, the importer. I was told that due to lagging US dollar and the expanded production of that saddle they had to up the price $35! I wonder if this is the start of higher prices on European made goods. Being the tightwad shopper I am, I had Performance price match Excell (they still have the old price of $145) and used the 20% cupon I found on the net. $121 shipped Fedex three day. If you have been thinking about getting another...now is the time!

I purchased all my Aliante saddles from Performance and always use the 20%. They have been $145 since they came out, the Ti version that is. The coupon code is #6000355 and is good an any order of $50 or more up untill 12/15/03
That's baloney, it's X-mas price gougingMGS

If you believe their explanation, you'll buy that bridge in Brooklyn.

Performance is planning on the X-mas rush to price gouge a few extra bucks from the well meaning but unaware person buying it as a gift.

The bike season is over for most of the country, and stores are unloading stock at LOWER prices in anticipation of the new season.

Performance knows it's a hot saddle, and probably on everyones shopping list.

As for the dollar against the Euro, the difference, the "lagging dollars" is about 8% for the summer. How this translates into a 20% price increase on OLD STOCK, is impossible to say.

Buyer beware. Performance has nice stuff, but there price is rarely the best.

There is certainly more than 8% difference between the euro and dollar. That much difference has occurred just recently. There is at least a 20% difference and climbing. Plus, the Italians have raised their prices. My dealer got the new invoices for the Aliante and it is costing him as much as the retail used to be! No gouging, just Bush economics....

The euro/dollar in September was 112.
In December 5, it was 121.

That an increase of less than 8%.

Performance is gouging.
Performance isn't gouging.High Gear

I talked to the importer and the msrp price has gone up that much. You will see this reflected in all the other merchants catalogs SOON. It is Fizik that is the gouger. They had to buy 4-5 more new machines to make the Aliante and are shifting the cost on to us. I have to say, with the comfort that saddle gives me, I would pay $200 for it. Remember this saddle is made in Italy and not in Asia, so the cost is going to be higher.

I think the Bush economics will be good for our industry in the long run. Us poor cyclists that depend on imported goods from Europ and the UK will have to suffer. Maybe if we stop buying from them, they will be forced to drop their prices. We have buying power that no other nation has. Look at meds, they are discounted to other poor nations and we are left to foot the bill. I guess it is what ever the market will bear.
