Info on Gitane frame with Vitus XO tubestkilimanjaro

Found a Gitane CX frame set close to my size and would love to have any info on the brand frame and tubeset.

This was originally cross posted on the Retro board but I noticed that there is a lot less traffic there. I hope I am not violating any RBR guidelines by cross-posting here

Thanks, carlo

I do not know the properties or details on the Vitus XO tubes. I do know that I had a Gitane XO CX frame that I raced on for a few years. I decided it was time to retire it so I sold it.

Wrong decision! It was a bit heavier than the Fuji X I replaced it with (also steel). The Fuji is super light for steel. The Gitane came in at 6.8lbs frame and fork, not bad at all for an older steel bike.

The bike rode like a dream in comparison. On the pavement, I thought I was riding my carbon OCLV. On the grass, it smoothed out all but the worst bumps. If you are getting it at a decent price, do it.

Hope this helps!
Marketing, did your Gitane have a high BB?kilimanjaro

That is the only thing holding me back. The sellers says it has 63 mm BB drop and that seems awfully high even for a CX bike to my untrained eyes. I currently ride a 50 CT with 53 top tube, don't know the BB drop (Maybe I should measure it tonight). The frame I am considering has 49 CC seatube and 52 TT so I am worried about standover.

By the way, does the Gitane have Italian or Brithish BB threading? Just curious as that would not affect my decision.

You can mail me offlist if you like at kilimanjaro@rocketmail.com

The price is ~160 usd for complete bike with 7spd setup so I am tempted to "check it out".
