|... some of you may recall, that last year, I posted that since I returned to cycling in the early Nineties, my Mom has made it a point to buy a child's bike and donate it to the local Children's Services to be given to a needy child over the Holidays... Today, she dropped off a new bike all by herself (she's ummmmm, 70, but don't spread that around) Way ta Go MOM!!!
Be the bike.
|Thanksgiving day somebody was selling bikes for $25 ...||Humma Hah|

|... maybe it was Walmart. I'd expect they were pretty cruddy, but I could have bought three, with helmets, for donation if I'd had the gumption go face the crowds, for about $100.
$25 for a bike??? That would have qualified as cheap in 1960! I'd love to see one of those ... dunno how they could build more than a plastic trike for that. Maybe they don't actually have bearings? I once saw a kid's bike with a one-piece crank stuffed through a BB that contained no bearings.
|Humma, I just yesterday picked up a bike for $9.75...||rwbadley|

|down at the Salvation Army.
I was standing there looking at this mint condition Schwinn Suburban ladies 10 speed with a basket on front no less! The price tag was at 19.50...hmmmm. So as I'm standing there, this guy is telling this lady co-worker "I wanna get all these bikes outta here, (they had maybe twenty assorted junk bikes) sell 'em all at 50% off" I overhear this, I go up and verify, yes indeed 9.75 out the door.
So this afternoon I had some time, I grease the BB, true the wheels, toss on some fresh rubber and tubes I happened to have laying about, put on some fresh front brake pads, clean and lube the chain, adjust the front and rear D, and here is a mint '74 Schwinn!
I took it out for a five mile ride and man this thing is really a very nice bike. I have in mind a lady friend of the family that could use it maybe. I hope somebody can get some use out of it. If not, then I'll certainly be happy to put some miles on it
|And worth 10 to 20x as much as you paid for it ...||Humma Hah|

|... Good job! That's a nice old bike, maybe not a valuable antique, but almost certainly Chicago-built, with great riding qualities, quite servicable, and worth preserving and using. Same age as my Paramount.|
