I've been cycling and living in Southern Virginia Beach for a long time. Face it, this place is full of mullets in big American trucks. It aint' no cycling town. All they have in the shops here is crap . .Just Treks, and any other manufacturer who only sells to "authorized dealers" to "control" pricing. You just need to do as I do; Don't go to them! I build my own wheels, do all my own builds, as well as plain old maintenance. I mail order everything. One day I needed a Campagnolo Record bottom bracket. .This was like 8 years ago. .NO ONE HAD ONE IN STOCK!! Unacceptable, I never went into another shop here again.

Can you be more specific? Lets hear your story.

I actually bought a bike at one of the Conte shops a few years ago. The employees in the shop were cool (as most wrenches are). I bought my bike new and I rode it a few hundred miles and the shop took care of the usual adjustments that a new bike needs. Once they dialed everything in, it was a great bike.

I wasn't a very savvy cyclist back then, but I noticed that my bike had some older componentry than what it should have had. It was a stock bike and all the component specs (Shimano Ultegra) were listed on the bike brochure. I got the shaft and got some components from the prior model year.

Don't know if Conte intentionally changed some stuff on me, but I didn't bother to pursue it. I knew pretty much after I bought the bike that I would never buy anything from there again.

The Conte family was a laughable bunch of characters. Especially the one guy, who I believe was named Chuck. He would do better operating a fish market in NYC than a bike shop in VA.

Dude, Conte switched out on me too!! His little techie Roberio was playing good cop/bad cop with Conte. They really took me for a loop and my head was spinning when I left. Spread the word, my main man, and Conte's kingdom will crumble.

You don't seem to be giving specifics here.

And regardless of how good (or bad) they are, I hardly would call what they have a "kingdom."

The cycling scene is pretty small in those markets. If it was larger, Performance would come in and clean their clocks.
