Does anyone know why Gilberto did not ride full Ksyriums. He is riding one in the back, but not in the front. Weight, personal preference, what?

Front wheel is a Mavic Helium.

The only reason I could guess is to reduce the affect of strong crosswinds. Ksyriums are a good wheel but terrible in windy conditions.

Maybe a flat?...Bruno S

He could have flatted and taken whatever the neutral support car had at the momment. The support car is sponsored by Mavic but who knows if it carries Ksyriums.
I think you're right. nmDutchy

I don't know the true reason but I know it wasn't a flat. I followed the Giro on TV every day and he started out with that wheel...perhaps the only reason was to get the bike down to the bare minimum weight. the front Helium is about 40g lighter compared to the '03 K and the rear is about 15g lighter but doesn't take a 10s Campy cassette.

Having said that, they might just have used it so people keep talking about the bike. It's good advertising.

but wasn't Simoni's bike below the weight limit? In fact, I think they had to stick some weights on it/in it to bring it up to code.
That was in the TDF...biknben

The carbon/Al frame that skirted the weight limits wasn't released until the TDF. He rode a plane old CAAD7 for the Giro.
