Curious as to everyone's favorite race videos...

I am going to ask my wife for a couple videos as Xmas gifts to help fight the boredom on the rollers this winter. I am leaning toward videos of the classics...looking for some recommendations.

It went down to the final stage and Lemond won by 8(I think?) seconds.

I'm a big fan of the 01-03 Tour of Flanders videos along with the Paris Roubaix DVDs from the same years. The 2001 Paris Roubaix DVD comes bundled with Ghent Wevelgem from World Cycling Productions and the price isn't too bad right now at 25 bucks.

...I love listening to Phil go apoplectic as Kelly catches Argentin after the descent of the Poggio:

"...KELLY HAS CLOSED THE GAP! I DON'T BELIEVE IT!...well my-oh-my he must have taken some real risks on the descent...Argintine has just looked over his shoulder and his heart must have hit his boots...."

I love watching Argintine do a double take as he realizes who is on his wheel with only 200 meters to the finish. It was Kelly's last classic win and it was perhaps his best. A classic Classic. Plus there is a huge fall in the finish as the bunch comes in sprinting it out for third.

My next favorites are the 1989 World Championships and the '89 Tour. The Tour is kind of cool becasue of the production value...Building the suspence with Phil's (not live) narration. The '89 Worlds is just a fantastically exciting finish. Lemond earned both of those victories. He was at the top of his (post shooting) form and was one tuff SOB!
zero....three great choices! I would add.......lanterne rouge

this years Tour too. I know it is awful recent but I believe it will age well. As far as classics go I like the wet Paris Roubaix videos mainly because I love watching bike races contested in the rain. You can't go wrong with the Tour of Flanders either.
Not a pure racing video, but...seyboro

...'Road to Paris' 27 days with the USPS team. Funny, informative, great to see the spring classics (esp. Paris-Roubaix and Amstel Gold) from the team car, very insightful. Other than that, I have always liked Ullrich's win at the '97 TDF.
Lastly, Britney Spears' HBO special from two or so years is still a favourite...
Paris Hilton. Soon to be a classic :-) nmDave Hickey

If you don't yet own these, you must make them up ASAP:
Tete en Course
Sunday in Hell
Greatest show on Earth
History of Tour of Flanders

As far as spring classics, 99 was a great year. Lots of fights.
My favorite:
99 Flanders: VanPetergan-VBD-Musseuw
99 LBL/FW: VDB-Bartoli
99 Het Volk/Gent: VDB-Steels

Other great races:
97 TDF: Ullrich
01 Tour of Suisse
98/99 world
94 roubaix: Tchmil/Musseuw one on one.
2000 Pais-tours/Zurich
98 Track world

1995 giro d'italia
1996 giro d'italia
any of the indurain tours de france, particularly 1995
2000 tour de france
2000 tour de suisse (it's a great one!)
stars and watercarriers

btw sit me down in front of any video where Marco Pantani is wreaking havoc and i'll declare that one my favorite by a landslide. he's a hoot. i also enjoy watching any race from any year where Tonkov is riding well.

the 2001 tour de france is a good one. the 2002 tour was boring--*total* Lance domination. i have 2003 taped from OLN and it's very exciting. will buy the longest VHS or DVD available when i get sick of fast forwarding through the commercials.

ultimate favorite though would have to be TdF 1999.

btw i have a cabinet full of WCP videos and watch them as much or more repetitively than my 3 year-old watches Blues Clues and Dora the Explorer.

grab your backpack! let's go! jump in! vamanos! you can lead the way! hey! hey!
Thanks for the suggestions!Triphop

I am really excited to check out some of these that you all have mentioned, hoping to get a few of them. Only having read the play by play of racing and only seen limited bits, I can't wait to see how these races unfold on screen. And hopefully I can forget the boredom of riding rollers. ;)
