Campy Scirocco vs. Vento(4 posts)

Campy Scirocco vs. VentoIndurain 03

I am having trouble deciding between these two wheelsets. The Vento is about .4 lbs heavier than the Scirocco, but is less money. The aerodynamics of the two are virtually the same, and that is more important than weight. But, I am primarily a sprinter, so acceleration is quite important. If anyone has any experience with either of these wheels, or has any advice in general, I would greatly appreciate it.

I should mention that I currently ride with Mavic CXP-21. They are so-so; will the aforementioned wheels provide a noticeable all-around improvement? Thanks again.
Thanks for all of the helpIndurain 03

Neither are going to accelerate as well as a good light tubie setup, BUT they're going to be faster on the top end. I have a pair of first gen Cosmics (16/16) so can't answer the specific Shamal/Vento questions.

I can tell you that the Cosmics are about the fastest wheels I've ridden at the top end. Not the easiest things to get going though.

If you're interested in lighter weight, I'd go Zipp 404. The rims weigh about a third less and they're more aero to boot. I have a pair of these too, but they're my track race wheels. Haven't ridden them on the road yet: that fixed gear thing is tough to get around!
