Question about Fork Rake(2 posts)

Question about Fork Rakebutzdogg

How does a fork's rake affect its ride characteristics? My only experience on a road bike has been on a Giant whech has a straight, wide carbon fork. I just got a Trek 5200 and the fork curls at the end and is thinner than the Giant. Any differeces between how the two will handle?

Rake does effect handling, but rake is independent of whether the fork is curved, wide, skinny, or straight. A straight fork can have the same rake as a curved fork because of the angle at the crown. Rake and head tube angle effect trail. As rake increases trail decreases. Trail causes the bike to return to a straight path after the bike has been turned. Try these.
