These things are sold in England and Australia, usually at corner stores in dilapidated parts of the city. They are basically a sub-$100 bike, most being single speed.

Notice in the picture the use of oxy-acetylene welding. Also, using a bastard file to try to smooth out the lousy welds. Do you see any indication of an annealing oven? Nope.

I think that the fact they make 17000 a day says something about how long one is going to last...
